Welcome and Introduction

Hello, my name is Nic, and I started this blog in order to provide a resource for people, especially working professionals, who are struggling with OCD. Growing up, I had mild OCD, which primarily manifested in the form of washing my hands a certain number of times or setting an unnecessary amount of alarms in order to ensure I woke up in time. However, when I was 22 and just starting my first job out of college, my OCD jumped in intensity and severity (for more info on what exactly I mean by this, please see my post What exactly is OCD and why is it difficult?) and for this reason, the intersection of OCD and a business environment is of particular interest to me.

My OCD made it extremely hard for me to be productive at work at times as if I somehow managed to make it to work without an OCD thought or worry accompanying me, it was more likely than not that some situation or occurrence at work would trigger my OCD in some other form. I understand this sounds a bit vague, and so I plan to explain what exactly some of these situations and occurrences were and how I dealt with them. I was lucky enough to find an amazing therapist who helped me develop a plan for overcoming my OCD and now I am able to go days without even thinking about OCD. This is a far cry from the early days of my battle with OCD, when even an hour break from the constant anxiety stemming from OCD was a massive relief. If those early days had continued, I don’t see how I would have been able to keep my job and a steady source of income. And so while my number one recommendation to anyone with OCD would be to work with a therapist, I hope that this blog can help supplement therapy by providing tips, stories, coping skills, and other various thoughts that can not only help people manage their OCD but also raise awareness among those without OCD about what exactly the former group is dealing with.
